Environmental Impact Reports

Requirements for EIR Submission

This page lists all of the data requirements for an Environmental Impact Report (EIR) completion. Project managers are required to submit this information to Environmental Health & Safety (EHS) in order to complete an EIR, unless otherwise noted. EHS will be responsible for the collection of all other data necessary for report completion. Where possible, please submit text in electronic form as a Word document or as an email.

Varsity Hall was relocated 200 feet to the northeast in order to accommodate the expansion of Rouss Hall and addition of Roberston Hall.

  1. Project Identification (Project Number, Work Order Number, Agency Number, State Budget Item Numbers)
  2. Project and site description- General project description including project cost, project justification, maps showing topography, streams, buildings, and roads in the general are of site; square footage of building and building footprint, area, size of area to be disturbed during construction, and subsurface conditions if known (soil, bedrock, depth to water table, all of which is typically found in soil boring logs, if available). Include maps showing final contours and all site features including landscaping. Please provide drawings and maps in 11x17 printed format on electronically as TIFF or PDF files. EHS will supply detailed description of the site geology and hydrogeology, regional USGS topographic mapping, and photographs of the site.
  3. Site controls or procedures planned for the site to control emissions during construction (stormwater, sediment, dust, particulates, wastes, etc. - general descriptions are sufficient in most cases). The project manager is to supply the stormwater and erosion control plan for the project, if necessary. For information on stormwater and erosion control plans, click here.
  4. Impacts to landscape, including trees and vegetation lost (count and area).
  5. Increase in impervious surface, in square feet. If this information is not available, EHS will calculate from drawings.
  6. Energy demands and energy conservation measures undertaken (general descriptions)
  7. Historic or archaeological significance of project site or impacts to neighboring historic sites and buildings. EHS will also research and supply information.
  8. Stormwater management after construction and impacts to local environment. Please supply data on structures, EHS will interpret the rest.
  9. Impacts, if any, to streams, wetlands, and floodplain. Please supply delineation maps if a wetland is present.
  10. Alternatives to project considered (other sites, other designs, no build option, etc.) This is a required element.
  11. Impacts to pedestrian and vehicle traffic during and after construction. EHS will supply, please send data if you have any.
  12. Vehicle parking impacts (lost, gained, moved).
  13. Air quality issues after construction (fuel burning equipment, fume hoods, generators, etc.)
  14. Final landscaping - does it balance what has been lost?
