![]() ![]() Just a few years ago, sequential formation skydiving (i.e. "relative work", or "RW") was virtually non-existant at Skydive Orange. As the drop zone began to grow, a small group of "new" jumpers made a concerted effort to re-popularize RW at their home dropzone. While they were "serious" in their efforts, they also worked hard to avoid separating themselves from other jumpers - regardless of their chosen discipline. In the last year, a couple of us have worked hard to put together a 4-way RW team at Skydive Orange made up solely of "regulars" from our home dropzone. While the original purpose was to create a challenging venue to improve our individual RW skills, it has grown into much more than that; We have laid the foundation for a skydiving team unlike any other. Team Event Horizon is not following the path of the typical 4-way RW team. Our goal is to improve our skills while sharing what we've learned with our fellow jumpers. We want to encourage RW as a means to foster camaraderie and improve the skill and safety level of our drop zone. Each of us is trained and certified in other aspects of the sport, and we are devoting at least half of our time to coaching, instructing, and assisting others. We plan to accomplish this through assisting in RW organizing, in coordinating “skills camps”, and in hosting informal competitions such as 4-way "scrambles". We have seen too many teams isolate themselves in preparation for competition. RW is once again an integral part of our club, and it is because of individuals with visions similar to ours that it has made such a significant comeback. Team Event Horizon are representatives of our club. We are not "just another team that jumps at Skydive Orange”, but rather “Skydive Orange’s 4-way formation skydiving team”! Regardless of our individual plans and future persuits, it is our hope that we can establish a team that will continue to represent our dropzone and our sport for years to come. |
