Laboratory Moves/Relocation
Any laboratory that plans on moving equipment or hazardous materials should contact EHS for assistance to be sure that moving company employees are properly trained and that materials are properly packaged for transportation. EHS will also help facilitate on grounds laboratory moves and relocations through out the University.
For lab moves NOT involving BSL-2 or higher laboratories, contact Jon Hall at jlh8d@virginia.edu or 434-982-4911.
For lab moves involving BSL-2 laboratories, contact Jennifer Branum at jmw4qs@virginia.edu or 434-982-4911.
The IBC requires that "new" laboratory spaces be inspected by EHS Biosafety.
To schedule an EHS Biosafety inspection, contact Jennifer Branum at jmw4qs@virginia.edu or 434-982-4911.
Moving "Contaminated" Equipment
Any equipment (e.g. refrigerators, freezers, incubators, centrifuges, Biological Safety Cabinets, HPLC, LSC and similar types of equipment) used in the manipulation, handling or storage of biohazardous or radioactive materials must be decontaminated before it can be moved. The EHS Biosafety must verify decontamination. Deface biohazard symbols and affix an "authorized to move" label on the equipment before it is moved. Call EHS (434-982-4911) or refer to the EHS website for detailed instructions.
